Oklahoma residents know that motor vehicle accidents happen every day on major roadways throughout the country, and fortunately that probably makes most people cautious whenever they are on the road. Some have witnessed collisions involving large vehicles, such as commercial trucks, and some have seen accidents with smaller vehicles, such as sports utility vehicles. Regardless of the size of a vehicle, property can be damaged and people can be injured or killed. For that reason, drivers must be careful whenever they operate their vehicles.
Recently, an SUV caused a multiple-vehicle crash in Norman that sent 15 children to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. According to the Norman Police Department, the accident began when a westbound SUV on Lindsey Avenue struck a northbound car on College Avenue. The collision sent the car head-on into the eastbound bus. 38 children between the ages 7 and 10 were on the bus. The SUV driver was unconscious when emergency crews arrived and was taken to a nearby hospital; the driver’s condition was not immediately known. An initial investigation shows that the SUV driver ran a stop sign before hitting the northbound car. Police did not indicate whether or not the second driver was injured.
This SUV accident is a reminder that disobeying traffic regulations can result in accidents. Failure to follow rules can endanger the lives of others on the road. When a driver’s disregard of traffic regulations leads to an accident, that driver is operating negligently and could be held liable for a victim’s injuries or death, and for property damage as well.
In Oklahoma, the victim in an accident may be able to recover compensation for injuries, medical treatment, lost wages and property damage.
