THE CONSEQUENCES OF WHIPLASH INJURIES ARE SERIOUS

The serious nature of whiplash injuries suffered in car accidents can sometimes be underestimated. Because these types of injuries can worsen over time, it is important not to overlook them and their seriousness following a car accident. Whiplash is the most common type of soft tissue injury suffered in a car accident. Whiplash is also referred to as a cervical sprain, strain or hyperextension, and though there may be misunderstanding associated with whiplash, it is an unquestionably serious injury.

Road safety during the holiday season

For many people, the arrival of winter means the beginning of the holidays. Festivities in some form or another are very common and many people will be travelling to be with friends and family. Unfortunately, the increased traffic on roads and the risk of harsh weather conditions makes the possibility of vehicle accidents even greater than it would normally be.

CAR ACCIDENT VICTIMS ARE PROTECTED THROUGH THE LEGAL PROCESS

Car accidents can be frightening and cause a tremendous disruption in the lives of victims and their families. In Oklahoma, car accidents are a leading cause of death and injury. Throughout the state, approximately 28,000 victims are injured or killed on average in car accidents according to the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office. Car accidents are all too common in areas in and around Oklahoma City. Each car accident impacts victims and their families and can be extremely stressful.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE IMPACTS OF TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES?

Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) refer to sudden damage to the brain which can occur due to a closed or open head injury. Closed head injuries can occur when a head strikes a windshield or dashboard in a car accident. Motor vehicle accidents, pedestrian accidents and collision-related accidents have been identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as leading causes of traumatic brain injuries. Victims can also suffer primary and secondary brain damage associated with traumatic brain injuries.

IMPROVEMENTS MAY BE NEEDED FOR SOME OKLAHOMA RAILROAD CROSSINGS

Railroad crossing safety issues are becoming an increasing concern in Oklahoma. An accident in Oklahoma over the summer that claimed the life of a woman and her 3 children highlighted the dangers of train crossings for many. A recent news investigation revealed documents that recommended upgrades to the railroad crossing where the fatal accident occurred. The upgrades had been recommended for 5 years but were never made. Shortly after the train accident killing the woman and her children, a resolution was passed to make improvements, using emergency funds, to the railroad crossing in question, including a crossing gate and flashing lights.

How to counter an insurance company's settlement offer

Saying that a car accident is expensive is an understatement. Between the vehicle damage, hospital bills and missed workdays, motor vehicle accident costs can really add up. The first offer from the insurance company will likely be too low to cover your damages. Insurance companies expect negotiation for a settlement and therefore will start with a number lower than what they would be comfortable paying out.
