Accident results in hit-and-run charge for alleged DUI driver

Oklahomans should know that one of the main responsibilities when driving is looking out for and driving safely around others. Not all drivers meet this expectation, however.

Recently, a 36-year-old woman was recently arrested for felony hit-and-run after a witness followed her to her residence after a car accident on North Council Road in Oklahoma City.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, the woman who allegedly caused the early evening accident was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The accident occurred around 7:15 p.m. when the woman’s car collided with a pickup truck. Police say the car driver fled the scene of the crash, leaving the pickup truck driver with a shoulder injury.

The alleged hit-and-run driver was arrested after a witness followed her car to an apartment complex and notified authorities. Police say the suspect admitted to driving the car involved in the accident.

She was taken into custody and charged with felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence of alcohol and not having a state driver’s license. Her bail was set at $27,000.

Whenever a car accident happens, drivers must stop and attempt to render aid, if possible, as well as contact police and wait for their arrival. This is a responsibility whether or not a driver is at fault. Failure to meet this responsibility almost always causes more trouble for a driver, especially when he or she flees the scene of the crash. Hit-and-run and drunken-driving charges also mean that a driver may be considered to be negligent.

In this incident, the woman who suffered a shoulder injury may need extensive medical treatment that could involve surgery and long-term rehabilitation. For this reason alone, the victim should consult an attorney who can help with a personal injury lawsuit against the woman, especially if the suspect is convicted of the charges against her.
