Sometimes car accidents seem to occur out of the blue, and some of those crashes take lives unexpectedly and with tragic consequences. That seems to have been the case recently north of Crescent in Logan County, approximately 40 miles north of Oklahoma City.
A late afternoon head-on accident involving a tractor-trailer and two pickup trucks killed a man and a woman and left their two children injured but alive. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the fatal car accident on State Highway 74 north of County Road 68 happened around 4:30 p.m. when a northbound truck hauling a trailer for some reason collided with a southbound Ford F550, which then veered into the northbound lane and hit a Dodge Ram. The 30-year-old female driver of the Dodge and her 31-year-old husband were declared dead at the scene. Their children, ages 2 and 4, survived the crash with head injuries, but were listed in good condition, according to OU Medical Center officials. The driver of the Ford F550 was extricated from his vehicle by an emergency crew and taken to Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City with arm and leg injuries. The semi driver and his passenger were not injured. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but rain may have been a factor.
Surviving family members of the couple killed may be able to file a lawsuit if the investigation results or witness accounts show negligence was a significant factor in the accident.
