Motorcycle riders and their families can suffer great harm following an unexpected motorcycle accident. A tragic Oklahoma-city area motorcycle accident recently claimed the life of three motorcycle riders. The serious accident occurred when the driver of a passenger vehicle overcorrected after leaving the roadway, then crossed the center line, striking one motorcyclist. The 49-year-old motorcycle rider was thrown 70 feet as a result of the accident and died at the scene.
However, this motorcycle accident resulted in two additional accidents. A second motorcyclist hit the first motorcycle and was thrown 20 feet. The 20-year-old motorcyclist also died. A third motorcyclist laid his bike down to avoid an additional crash but left the roadway to the right-hand side. That 36-year old motorcyclist also died. All three motorcyclists died as a result of the fatal motorcycle accident. Because of the driver’s age, police are not releasing the names of the driver or passenger who were uninjured in the crash.
As this blog has discussed before, motorcycle riders are vulnerable to inattentive and distracted, or otherwise negligent, actions of drivers. When a motorcycle accident victim, or their family, has been harmed by the negligent actions of another driver, legal protections are in place to protect the victim and the victim’s family. A claim for damages may hold the negligent driver both responsible and liable for the damages the victim and the victim’s family have suffered as a result of the driver’s careless actions. Various types of motorcycle accidents can lead to significant damages, so securing representation may be beneficial.
Due to the overwhelming harm and tragic consequences that are possible following a motorcycle accident, it is important that victims, and their families, are familiar with the legal remedies and legal recourse options available to them. The harm suffered by victims following motorcycle accidents, and family members of victims following the unexpected loss of a loved one in a fatal motorcycle accident, warrants an informed understanding of the rights of motorcycle accident victims.
