A crash involving a car and an SUV recently claimed the lives of an Oklahoma woman and her child. The woman was killed in the head-on collision and her 10-month-old son was pronounced dead at the hospital following the SUV accident. The woman’s 2-year old daughter was life-flighted to an Oklahoma hospital in stable condition. The accident occurred a couple of hours east of Oklahoma City.
The SUV accident victim was driving a passenger vehicle when it was struck head on by an SUV. The SUV was driven by a 74-year-old woman who had 3 grandchildren in the vehicle. The SUV was travelling in the wrong lane of a two-lane highway. According to authorities, the driver of the passenger vehicle swerved in one direction to avoid the accident but the driver of the SUV swerved in the opposite direction, putting the vehicles on a collision course.
The driver of the SUV reported that she did not pull out far enough to get into the correct lane and claimed that she was having difficulty with moisture on her windshield prior to being warned by one of her grandchildren of the oncoming car. The driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries and the passengers in her vehicle were unharmed.
Motor vehicle accident victims and their families may face any number of emotional challenges which can be further exacerbated by financial challenges associated with the unexpected accident and loss. Negligent drivers can be held accountable through a personal injury or wrongful death claim for damages. It is important for victims of motor vehicle accidents to be aware of their rights.
