Information about motorcycle safety is important to motorcycle riders and the motor vehicle drivers they share the roadway with. This blog recently discussed the serious and potentially tragic dangers motorcyclists can face when motorists are careless. Government agencies, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other groups, can provide information to help keep motorcyclists safe and other types of resources are available to motorcycle accident victims when they have been injured.
The CDC recorded motorcycle accident injuries from 2001 to 2008 and of non-fatal motorcycle injuries, 30 percent occurred in lower extremities such as the leg and foot. Next, among non-fatal motorcycle injuries, 22 percent were head and neck injuries. Following head and neck injuries in frequency were back, shoulder and chest injuries followed by injuries to arms hands and lower areas such as hip and pelvis injuries. Depending on the age of the rider, the most severe injuries motorcycle accident victims may suffer can occur to either the upper or lower trunk.
Motorcycle accident injuries can be debilitating and truly costly for victims and their families both financially and emotionally.
