Oklahoma car accidents: Truck driver killed in wreck

On Behalf of | Mar 29, 2018 | Car Accidents

An Oklahoma man recently died in an accident in Bryan County. It is said he was involved in a crash with a driver who crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 70. A total of three people, including the driver who caused the crash, were injured in the wreck as well. When car accidents happen, victims or — in the event of a fatality — their surviving family members may have legal recourse.

According to a news report, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the driver of a Jeep allegedly tried to pass a pickup truck in the westbound lane of Highway 70 by using the shoulder. The two vehicles ended up colliding, and the Jeep crossed into eastbound traffic and struck a Rent A Center truck. The driver of the truck — a 38-year-old male — died before he could be transported for medical care. His passenger was taken to a hospital with injuries that were believed to be non life-threatening.

The driver of the Jeep and a passenger in the same car also suffered injuries in the crash. Both were transported to an area medical facility for treatment. Police are still in the process of investigating this incident. It is unclear if any criminal charges are pending against the driver deemed responsible.

There is a lot involved in this particular case. The family of the deceased victim may be entitled to seek workers’ compensation death benefits through his employer and be permitted to pursue third-party civil claims against the driver believed responsible for the collision. The injured passenger of the same truck may also be able to seek relief through workers’ compensation benefits and third-party claims. An Oklahoma-based attorney with experience handling both workers’ compensation and civil claims stemming from car accidents would be a good recourse in these cases. Finally, the passenger of the Jeep may also be entitled to seek relief through legal means, which can be done with the assistance of legal counsel.
