You have car insurance to protect you in the event of an accident. That is why it is so disheartening when your auto insurance claim is denied. There are steps you can take to fight back against a denied claim, however. Do not immediately assume that the insurance agency is in the right, as there are many instances where agents make mistakes, and these mistakes can have a damaging impact on their clients.

Step 1: Read Through Your Policy

Before moving forward, make sure you know your policy inside and out. While rules and regulations might seem cut and dry, this may not always be the case. It could also be true that your agent is misreading or misunderstanding some aspect of your policy, which could be the cause of the denial. After reading through your policy, you will have a better understanding of the best steps to take next.

Step 2: Build Your Case

In the event you believe your claim was indeed valid, begin building your case right away. Write down notes about the accident, take pictures of your vehicle and the accident scene, reach out to any witnesses, and compile documents related to any medical care that resulted from the accident. Once you have the evidence you need, you can file a grievance with the company.

Step 3: Be Careful About What You Say

Many people have said seemingly innocent statements to their insurers that have come back to haunt them. Be very cautious about what you say so you do not inadvertently admit that you were responsible for the accident. While you must answer all questions honestly, do not provide more information than is necessary.
