The dangers of rollover accidents and what families can do

Rollover accidents, including SUV rollover accidents, are extremely dangerous accidents in Oklahoma City that oftentimes result in fatalities. Rollover accidents have higher rates of fatalities than other types of motor vehicle accidents. It is interesting to note that of the 9.1 million motor vehicle accidents in 2010, including passenger cars, SUVs, pickups and vans, 2.1 percent involved rollovers, however, rollover accidents accounted for 35 percent of motor vehicle accident fatalities.

During 2010, greater than 7,600 victims died in rollover accidents. With a high rate of fatalities, it is important that families of victims of rollover accidents are familiar with legal protections that may be able to help with the unexpected harm and damages that can follow a rollover accident. Surviving family members may need help with the unexpected financial challenges they face following the loss of a loved one in a rollover accident.

The dangers associated with rollover accidents may be attributed to the design of the vehicle or may be attributed to a negligent driver that caused the accident. In either circumstance, families may be able to seek compensation for the harm suffered, including the financial and emotional damages caused by the rollover accident and the loss of a loved one. Damages that surviving family members may be able to pursue through a wrongful death claim may include medical and funeral expenses, loss of support and services and pain and suffering damages, among other types of damages.

Because of the high emotional, and sometimes, unfortunately, financial costs associated with rollover accidents, it is important that family members of victims are familiar with resources that may be available to help them. Options that may be available can depend on the unique circumstances of the accident, which is why it is important to take the time to understand the circumstances of each rollover accident as it relates the situation of the family.
