Driving safely and giving other motorists plenty of room is essential when commuting to work in Oklahoma. Doing so should help keep you out of trouble. Unfortunately, car accidents can happen fast if another driver is out of control. This condition can be fueled by road rage, another factor to look for when driving if you want to avoid a motor vehicle accident.

How to spot road rage

Many car accidents emerge from a driver who is exhibiting road rage. If you ever spot the following behaviors being completed by another motorist, it’s critical to go on high alert and try to avoid them:

  • Taunting you with their vehicle – A road rage driver may crowd your lane, tailgate or slow down quickly in front of you.
  • Annoying you with their vehicle – Road rage motorists can try to annoy you by honking, flashing their brights or revving their engine at you.
  • Physical actions – Drivers in a state of road rage may also exude physical actions, showing their state of mind. These might include flipping you off, banging their steering wheel or hitting the side of the car.
  • Verbal actions – Road rage drivers can also scream, yell or curse at you or to themselves.

What factors contribute to road rage?

When a motorist lacks time or is behind schedule, it can contribute to road rage. Traffic congestion can also lead to road rage. A motorist may also become enraged when they feel the law doesn’t apply to them. Road rage drivers can also feel unaccountable to other motorists when they separate the bubble of their automobile interior from the outside world.

Unfortunately, car accidents occur, and you may be involved in one of them with a road rage driver. If this happens, call 911 and wait for authorities to assess the situation or provide medical assistance.
